Before we depart momentarily to celebrate this holiday of giving thanks with friends and family we wanted to share this elegant garden wedding with you. We are thankful for Dave and Beaux, who top the list of the most gracious and sweet couples we have ever met. The gorgeous garden setting at the groom’s parent’s home was enhanced with pops of color and soft green floral accents. Please enjoy a few of our favorite photos by the lovely and talented {Silvana Difranco}.

Scott + Leila

June 7th, 2011

One of our all time favorite couples recently got married at Solage Resort in Calistoga. They chose to do a black and white themed wedding and wanted a bit of style and glam, but in understated touches and details. We agreed that modern elegance with subtle hints feathers in the florals would be a nice way to add that sense of glam and flair. And to be quite honest, they brought their own fun and flair to the day that it shows through in their photos, enjoy!

Ceremony set with a sprinkle of white rose petals, kissing balls and moss spheres all dancing along the aisle. The ceremony area was denoted with two large pedestal arrangements of dogwood, hydrangea and black feathers and ti leaves.

We loved how the lighting gobo ‘spring branches’ created the perfect pattern to mimic their tall dogwood floral pieces on the tables. Brava!

Cheers to the fabulous couple!

Bouquets to Art 2011

March 18th, 2011

The 27th Annual Bouquets to Art features 150 floral arrangements by prominent Bay Area designers and garden clubs, to interpret and complement the museum’s permanent collection. Bouquets to Art is the largest fundraiser held to benefit the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, and one of the country’s premier floral events.

Soulflower Floral Design is thrilled to return as an exhibitor for our third year in row! It is always an honor and an artful challenge to participate in the week-long exhibition. This year, we were given a favorite piece of artwork to interpret and base our creation: Henry Moore’s Reclining Figure, No. 9. According to the de Young, Moore was profoundly influenced by the reclining figure depicted in a Toltec-Maya Chac Mool sculpture and that became the primary motif for his subsequent work. Moore believed that his compositions provided new ways of relating to the landscape, stating, “Sculpture is a mixture of the human figure and landscape, a metaphor of the relationship of humanity with the earth.”

For our Bouquets to Art piece, we chose to do a vertical interpretation and embrace the organic, modern and undulating feel of Moore’s sculpture. Bridging between the masculine and feminine qualities and the inherent relationship between humanity and nature, we brought together several natural elements, textures and colors such as succulents, moss, balsa wood flowers and unique foliage. With sustainability in mind, chose materials that are the longest-lasting cut flowers as well as many elements that can be replanted and reused. Here are a few images from our day installing the piece.

We joked on-site that it was like the ‘Top Chef’ of Floral Design because we have such limited time inside the museum and strict guidelines as to what you can use inside the museum. The conservator sheriffs are on patrol, not kidding! to inspect every item that enters the museum to protect against pests that may come in on wood, feathers, various fabrics and other materials. We were asked to special treat our balsa wood flowers made from tapioca root prior to entering the museum. Here we are relieved to have found the perfect placement near our piece, but within enough distance should there be an earthquake, it would not damage Moore’s beautiful bronze.

Ta-da! Our completed Bouquets to Art piece

Special thanks to SF Brides Magazine for sharing our piece on their blog! For more information about the exhibit, go to the Bouquets to Art website.

We hope that you will have a chance to enjoy this amazing exhibition before Saturday evening or again in 2012!

Holiday cheer!

December 24th, 2010

On Christmas Eve, I love reflecting on our December filled with so much holiday cheer! Our clients were definitely in the Christmas spirit and really kept our spirits high amidst ALL the twinkle lights, holiday ornaments and wintergreens. It is usually a very busy time for us, so working with wonderful clients is always a true joy! Here are some of the highlights from our holiday installations and Christmas decorating, enjoy with a warm cup of peppermint tea or mulled wine……

Magnolia and succulent holiday wreath

We worked with a handful of private clients on the Peninsula for their holiday decor and festive embellishments. I absolutely love these large mahogany doors adorned with the magnolia and winter berries.

Our Christmas decorating started the Monday following Thanksgiving with a few lovely 10 foot Noble Fir trees. Here Kate and Marquita are getting into the Spirit at the Presidio Landmark, one of the eco-modern luxury residence that we service for weekly florals.

We also had the pleasure of working The Uptown Apartments in downtown Oakland, another eco-modern residence. Diane showed their maintenance staff a few handy tips for garlands and wreaths – she’s a wizard at holiday decor!

It is true when people say, “What a fun job you have!” Lending a hand to our clients to ensure they can enjoy the holiday spirit is such a gift. And after we’ve washed all the sap off of our hands and packed away any leftover ornaments, we will now the find time to spend with our families and loved ones.

Merry, Merry Christmas!

Wheat grass for all of us!

July 30th, 2010

Wheat grass is a wonderful, healthy centerpiece option for you and your guests! It is quite easy to cultivate yourself and also an inexpensive option for your floral designer to provide. Following your event the grass can be washed, juiced and added to a smoothie or shake for a boost of vitamins and minerals. We love a little bit of extra wheat grass in the studio for our team to stay healthy and enlivened!
