Every year the de Young Museum floods with floral genius and magic, where floral designers are assigned a piece of artwork from which to create a floral masterpiece.  Designers will interpret, mimic or reflect the essence of the art through their floral design, crafting and engineering skills to work create works of floral art.

This year’s assignment was the highly regarded painting, ‘The Niagra River at the Cataract’ by Gustav Grunewald.  The sheer size of the paintings is stunning, spanning over 7′ in height.  I chose to reflect the essence of the spilling drama and layers of the falls in my piece.

This past week our local favorite maker and manufacturer organization, SFMade, hosted a trailblazing event at Pier 70:  Bay Area Urban Manufacturing Summit.  The luncheon was a gathering of manufacturers, urban planning experts and local leaders including Mayor Ed Lee (San Francisco), Mayor Sam Liccardo (San Jose), Mayor Bill Harrion (Fremont) and our amazing friend, go girl!!, Annie Campbell Washington (Oakland).  Of the 400+ guests in attendance were some of the best of our local community like Heath Ceramics, Timbuk2 and Pinterest.

To enhance the event, we crafted colorful, textured centerpieces and accent plant displays that incorporated reclaimed pieces of the Golden Gate bridge by artist, Ricard Bulan, from Golden Gate Bride Furniture.

When the fog rolls into the Bay Area, it is memories of Nancy and Dustin’s bright, beautiful wedding that chases the fog away!  With gorgeous pops of coral, peach and green set against their black and white decor this chic wedding was both sophisticated and heartfelt.  Nancy and Dustin exuded joy, grace and deep appreciation throughout their wedding planning process and it is evident in the beautiful images captured by Jasmine Lee Photography.  Congratulations once again Nancy and Dustin! xo

With a whirlwind of spring and summer events, we’re just getting a chance to share {our website redesign}  by {With Grace and Gold}.  We were lucky enough to connect with Kelly and Audra from With Grace and Gold via social media.  Their quick understanding of our need to create a modern, clean, and welcoming design to best showcase our portfolio made the process so simple and worthwhile. With our existing Logo Design in mind, they brought in deep corals and grays as inspiration and used a variety of patterns and textures to capture a high-end, modern feeling. We are so grateful to Kelly and Audra from {With Grace and Gold} for bringing our vision to life!

We’ve been a member of the International Live Events Association (ILEA-NCC), formally the International Special Events Society, for the last nine years.   During the last several years, Soulflower Design Studio’s owner, Emily, has been an active been Board member and in recent years a Strategic Partner.  We’re so excited that she recently stepped up to serve as the newest ILEA-NCC President.  A few photos from the inaugural Gala in July, 2016 by Orange Photography.

A few words about why Emily has chosen to be part of ILEA-NCC:

I first came into the organization to broaden my network and build my business.  I can wholeheartedly say ILEA-NCC has helped me grow both personally and professionally.  This of course was not without time and dedication volunteering on committees, sponsoring events and consistently showing up.   I had to be willing to “be evolutionary” and get outside my comfort zone, try new things and embrace all the potential of our incredible membership base.  I have countless ILEA stories of those who have mentored me and of looking beyond my own self-imposed limits to ‘go for it’ to transform ILEA connections into real business, real relationships and real growth.

-Emily Dreblow, ILEA-NCC Board of Directors, President

To hear more about her vision for the year ahead, you can read the latest newsletters from July and August.  Looking forward to Emily’s leadership with such a prestigious organization!
